After a successful first-year event in Boston, it’s with mixed emotions that I lay the news on you that Comics Against Cancer will no longer involve my contributions. While the name and logo will be retained by Steve Burr, who may or may not continue CAC events in the future, I assure you that my own fundraising and cancer awareness efforts as they relate to comedy and entertainment are not ceasing.
Instead, I’m aiming to launch a new venture centered around entertainment-based fundraisers for cancer organizations (with the long-term potential of contributing to non-cancer charitable organizations as well). Much like CAC, the primary mission of this new business will be to produce live comedy events that will raise both funds and awareness for cancer patients, cancer research, and cancer prevention through organizations such as the American Cancer Society. We’ll also be looking to produce fundraisers involving live music and other themed events.
How can you help?
Many of the great folks who were a part of the CAC planning committee have been brainstorming ideas for names for this new organization. We’d like to get all of your suggestions as well, as we’re sure there’s a ton of great ones out there. So get on your creative thinking caps, and send me your ideas!
We also need committed team members who would like to be associated with our new organization, who will serve as planning committee members and our on-the-ground tactical event crews in various locations.
Are you a comic?
Sign on to become a member of this new and exciting group! As we work through the details, we envision offering an annual membership for a small fee that will associate you with us on different levels, allowing us to involve you in specific events (for example, the higher the membership level, the more often we’ll look to you for performances).
Are you a cancer survivor or caregiver?
We would love to have you involved to help us further ensure that our events are as meaningful as possible to donors, survivors, and others struggling with a cancer diagnosis.
Are you a musician?
Many of you knew about the June Battle of the Bands we put on for CAC. Let us know if your band would like to be a member and participate in various live events as the come up!
Logo Contest!
Once we have our new name chosen from all of your great suggestions, we’re gonna need a logo! Stay tuned for details on a logo design contest that will soon be announced!
So whether you’re a comedian, a musician, a survivor, or just someone who really believes that we CAN impact this disease, contact me to find out more information on getting involved.
Much love and peace,
Angie
